Why We Don’t Allow Visitors in Our In-Home Maine Coon Cattery: Safety, Health, and Peace of Mind

One of the most common questions we receive is: “Can we come visit and meet the kittens, the Kings/Queens, and see your cattery?”
It’s a reasonable question, especially for families who want to feel confident and connected before bringing home a kitten.
At Aspen Maine Coons, we are an in-home cattery, meaning our cats and kittens are raised in our private home rather than in a public facility. Because of that, we follow a clear policy:
Aspen Maine Coons Visitor Policy
We do not allow in-person visitors to our home.
This decision isn’t about secrecy. It’s about safety, health, and protecting the calm environment our cats and kittens need to thrive.
Below is a transparent explanation of why we keep this policy and how we still help families feel confident and informed.
1) Health and Biosecurity Come First
Kittens have developing immune systems. Even with excellent cleaning and veterinary care, an in-home cattery has to prioritize prevention.
Visitors may unintentionally bring in germs on:
shoes and clothing
hands and phones
bags and car seats
contact with other pets or animals earlier that day
Many illnesses are mild for adult cats but can be harder on young kittens. A no-visitor policy reduces unnecessary exposure and is one of the simplest ways to protect our nursery.
2) Stress Matters, Especially for Moms and Babies
Pregnant queens and nursing mothers need a calm, steady environment. New sights, sounds, and unfamiliar people can create stress that impacts:
appetite
milk production
rest and bonding
overall kitten well-being
Even friendly visitors can be disruptive in a space where kittens are sleeping, nursing, and building confidence.
3) Safety and Privacy in an In-Home Program
Because our cattery is part of our home, we take privacy and safety seriously for:
our family
our children
our home and property
our cats and routines
We also protect our cats from unnecessary handling. Kittens are adorable, but repeated “meet-and-greet” traffic increases stress and risk.
4) Cleanliness and Routine Support Healthy Development
A strong start for kittens is built on:
consistent routines
clean spaces
stable temperatures and quiet rest
predictable feeding and handling
In-home breeding is not a petting zoo environment, and our priority is the cats’ daily rhythm.
5) Ethical Breeding Still Includes Transparency
A no-visitor policy does not mean families should accept a lack of transparency. We believe families deserve to feel confident.
That’s why we offer multiple ways to “meet” kittens and see what matters.

FAQ
“How do we know this is legitimate if we can’t visit?”
A reputable breeder should be able to provide:
consistent communication
clear photos and videos
written policies
a contract
vet records and transparency about care
a willingness to answer questions
We support thoughtful questions and clear communication.
“Can we visit later after the contract is signed?”
We still do not allow home visits. Our policy stays consistent to keep cats safe and routines stable.
“How do we choose the right kitten without meeting in person?”
We help match kittens based on:
temperament observations
household fit (kids, pets, lifestyle)
your preferences for personality and activity level
We also provide video updates so you can see behavior, not just photos.
Final Thoughts
We understand that families want reassurance, and we respect that. Our no-visitor policy exists to protect what matters most: the health, safety, and calm development of our kittens and cats, while also protecting our home as a private, in-home program.
If you have questions about our process or want to see kittens via video, we’re happy to help.
