People often imagine a cattery as a separate space — quiet, isolated, and removed from daily life. Ours is the opposite. Our Aspen Maine Coons are raised in our home, woven into the natural rhythm of family life from the very beginning.

A typical day is not staged or sanitized. It is real, active, and intentionally ordinary — because ordinary life is exactly what prepares kittens to thrive in their future homes.

Morning: Gentle Starts and Familiar Voices

Mornings begin calmly. Cats stretch, greet one another, and move through familiar routines. Kittens observe first, then follow — learning confidence by watching older cats navigate the household.

They hear doors open, coffee brewing, children talking, and everyday movement. These sounds become normal rather than startling. This early exposure helps kittens develop resilience and ease rather than sensitivity to noise or change.

Handling is gentle and frequent. Kittens are picked up, spoken to, and interacted with in a relaxed way that builds trust without overwhelming them.

Midday: Play, Exploration, and Learning Boundaries

As energy rises, play becomes more purposeful. Kittens chase, climb, wrestle, and explore their environment freely.

This is where important lessons happen:

  • How to interact respectfully with other cats

  • When play has gone too far

  • How to self-regulate excitement

Because kittens are raised with adult cats, they learn social boundaries naturally—not through correction, but through experience. They also continue to engage with people throughout the day, reinforcing that humans are a source of comfort, safety, and enrichment.

Afternoon: Rest, Observation, and Emotional Development

After play comes rest. Kittens nap near siblings, adults, or people, choosing closeness over isolation. This quiet time is just as important as active play. Emotional development happens during rest, when kittens feel secure enough to fully relax.

We often see personality traits solidify here— those who seek companionship, who enjoy observing from a distance, and who prefer to be at the center of activity.

Evening: Family Life and Routine Exposure

Evenings bring more activity. The household becomes more lively, and kittens experience a wider range of movement, sounds, and interactions. This is when in-home raising truly matters. Kittens learn that change is safe. Those routines shift. That new people and sounds are not to be feared. By being present in real life—not a controlled environment—kittens develop adaptability that carries into adulthood.

Why In-Home Raising Makes a Difference

Living alongside people from birth teaches Maine Coon kittens how to exist comfortably in a human world. They are not simply tolerant of interaction — they seek it out.

This approach supports:

  • Confident temperaments

  • Strong human bonds

  • Easier transitions into new homes

  • Reduced stress during travel and change

Our Philosophy

Raising Maine Coons is not about maximizing numbers or speeding timelines. It is about presence, patience, and intention. By allowing kittens to grow within the flow of family life, we help shape cats that are emotionally grounded, socially fluent, and deeply connected.

This is not an add-on or a marketing phrase — it is simply how we live with our cats every day. For families seeking a Maine Coon who feels at home quickly, trusts easily, and bonds deeply, how a kitten is raised matters just as much as pedigree or size.
